When CEO of Toyota, Akio Toyoda wrote in a recent blog that he and his company “would start where Hiromu Naruse left,” we believe he was serious. Naruse was a Toyota driver in the main test and spiritual leader of the Gazoo Racing tuning house who died tragically in June in an accident in Germany while a driving test ALF Lexus near Nurburgring circuit.

Just seven months ago at the Tokyo Motor Show, Naruse-san and his team unveiled three concept cars Gazoo GRMN, all inspired by – you guessed it – the Nurburgring. Of the three, which is most likely to hit showroom floors is a relatively early version of the Hot Hatch FR GRMN concept (pictured above) – a small, rear-wheel drive five-door car based on the Toyota Aygo city. But if something is indeed built, expect to see a very different vehicle loosely based on the three-door version of the Aygo. The figure represents the right is like an artist sees the hatchback coupe if indeed they do to production.

Naruse told us in the room that he asked his young engineers what car I most wanted to build. The consensus was to develop a fun way, the rear wheels of cars at low prices enough to drive young buyers. He told his team the only way to create the kind of car you wanted to build and was to use existing engines, transmissions and other key components. So the word went out not only the design of Toyota worldwide and engineering centers, but also their suppliers. “We have to build this car with what we already have. That’s the only way to keep costs low,” said Naruse.
